Bill Summary: This bill requires certain appliances to meet energy efficiency standards and important to the pool and spa industry it requires portable electric spas to meet the requirements of the “American National Standard for Portable Electric Spa Energy Efficiency” (ANSI/APSP/ICC-14 2014) as approved on September 12, 2014. APSP has worked on this legislation as it has navigated the process to ensure that the language would require portable spas to meet the APSP-14 Standard, which is consistent with what is now a code requirement in Massachusetts with their recent adoption of the International Pool & Spa Code that also requires compliance with APSP-14. APSP has submitted a letter of support to the Joint Committee staff and bill sponsors.
Status: HB 4737 – Substituted as new draft of H.B. 3404 on July 11 and passed the House on July 12.
