Bill Summary:  All public swimming pools shall, not later than 90 days after this measure becomes law, ensure that the electrical circuit or receptacle providing power to the pool's pump motor includes ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.  APSP is working with our electrical experts to ensure changes are considered that are consistent with the National Electrical Code. There is no GFCI protection for personnel available for large three-phase pump motors like you would see at a large public facility; therefore, as the bill is currently drafted, it would not work in these applications.

APSP encourages our NC members who want to ensure any requirements that pass the legislature can be achieved in the field, to please contact Jennifer Hatfield.

Status:  This measure was heard April 19 in House Judiciary; however, no recorded action was taken. This measure awaits further consideration by the House Judiciary Committee.
