Oklahoma- HB 2134 (Independent Contractors)

Bill Summary:  This bill prohibits disqualification from pursuing, practicing or engaging in any occupation for which a license is required solely or in part because of a prior conviction, unless it is a conviction directly related to the occupation for which the license is sought. In determining if a conviction directly relates to the position or the occupation for which the license is sought, the licensing authority shall consider:  

1. Whether the conviction is directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the occupation;

2. Whether the occupation offers the opportunity for the same or a similar offense to occur; and

3. The length of time since the offense occurred.  

 If adopted this bill shall become effective November 1, 2019.

Status: This bill passed the House March 12th.  This bill was heard in the Senate Business, Commerce and Tourism Committee April 11th.  No action was reported from the hearing.
