Rule Summary: The Commission adopted updates to the California Building Standards. The discussion is part of the 2016 Intervening Code Adoption Cycle (2016 Intervening Cycle) for updates to the California Building Code, Green Building Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code and Plumbing Code. The Commission will discuss the cycle with the following agencies: (1) Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD); (2) the Division of the State Architect - Structural Safety (DSA-SS); (3) Building Code Commission (BCC); (4) the Office of the State Fire Marshal (SFM); (5) the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD); and (6) California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

The discussion focuses on the International Codes and amendments that are necessary since the 2015 Triennial Cycle was completed. The 2015 Cycle updates were to the 2016 California Code with a 2017 effective date. The intervening cycle was necessary to ensure that the Commission has captured all the code updates.

Status:  All the codes are set for publication January 1, 2018 and will be effective July 1, 2018. A notice of all approved standards has now been provided.
