Bill Summary: This measure prohibits a local ordinance providing for the licensure of electrical or specialty contractors, journeymen electricians, sign specialists, or fire alarm specialty technicians from requiring the individual to be licensed or registered with the municipality to participate in an apprenticeship or training program.  SB 1185 was adopted and amends the Skilled Trades Regulation Act section 733 (MCL 339.5733) Applicability of article to municipality. 
Under section 733 it states this article shall not construe the power of a municipality to enact an ordinance except that the ordinance shall not require an individual be licensed with, register with, or obtain the approval of the municipality or of the municipality’s licensing board to participate in an apprenticeship or training program.
