Florida – HB 367/ SB 522  (Apprenticeship Programs)

Bill Summary: This bill relates to apprenticeship training requirements for the Florida Department of Education and the development of the Florida Apprenticeship Grant Program. It is the intent of the State of Florida to provide educational opportunities for its residents so that they can be trained for trades, occupations, and professions suited to their abilities.

In regard to apprenticeship training, the Department of Education must submit annual reports to the State Apprenticeship Advisory Council and provide information under the apprenticeship programs section of its website as to how a Florida College System institution or a school district may assume responsibility for all local educational agency requirements for an apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship program. 

The Florida Apprenticeship Grant Program will allow any registered program sponsor that does not receive assistance from a career education institution, as described in s. 446.051(2), may apply to the department for grant awards to assist in funding apprenticeship programs.
