Florida – HB 89/ SB 164 (Workforce)

Issue: Public and Private employer use of E-Verify

Affects:  Those who build pools/spas

Bill Summary: This bill enacts the use of the E-Verify system for private employers.  Beginning January 1, 2020, a private employer shall:

  • Use the E-Verify system to verify such person's employment eligibility.Employees hired before this date will not be subject to verification;
  • An employer may not knowingly employ an unauthorized 138 alien.

Every public employer, contractor, and subcontractor shall register with and use the E-Verify system to verify the work authorization status of all new employees.
