Issue: Drowning Prevention Rule Requirements
Affects: Those who administer drowning prevention education.
Bill Summary: Florida Department of Health proposes to update language regarding required drowning prevention education programs, drowning prevention, and responsibilities of swimming pool ownership. In Section 64E-21.001 Drowning Prevention Education/Public Information Publication, the required education program has been changed from the American Red Cross Community Water Safety Course to the online course ‘Home Pool Essentials’ co-developed by the American Red Cross and the National Swimming Pool Foundation.
Status: Comments are due November 21, 2018. If a public hearing is requested by November 21, 2018 the Department will schedule one. The Department withdrew proposed amendments to a rule concerning drowning prevention education and public information as there is no current Attorney General.
