Summary: This bill updates and adopts standards for water efficiency and energy efficiency that apply to a list of consumer and commercial appliances and other products.
Aside from Colorado, Washington has adopted a very similar bill pertaining to energy efficiency standards for appliances. Alongside the IHTA Engineering Committee, PHTA worked with the bill sponsor to move this bill through the legislative process.
As defined in this bill, portable electric spas mean a factory-built electric spa or hot tub that is portable. It may or may not include any combination of integral controls, water heating, and water circulating equipment.
Portable electric spas must now meet the ANSI/APSP/ICC-14 standard.
Status: The Governor signed this bill with an effective date of August 2, 2019. Starting January 1, 2021 portable electric spas must adhere to APSP-14.
