Rule Summary:. The proposal updates to the 2015 editions of the International Codes, including the International Building Code, the International Plumbing Code and International Existing Building Code. In 2012, the Commission incorporated portions of the 2012 edition of the International Building Code (IBC) into the California Building Code. The 2015 Cycle proposes updates to the 2016 California Building Code (CBC) with a 2017 effective date. The Building Standards Commission (BSC) approved amendments to Chapter 31, Special Construction, addressing swimming pools. The code will be updated to reflect reference to the Swimming Pool Safety Act. In addition, the BSC has proposed amendments impacting outdoor water use. The amendments are in response to the drought situation in the state and may impact the installation of pools, spas and other water features.

Status: The final 2016 California Building Code was published July 2016 and is effective January 1, 2017. There is no additional review necessary and no publications in the California Register. These are the official codes and this entry is considered final.
