If you haven’t heard about the 2012 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) you just might be surprised about how big a deal it is! The ISPSC is the first comprehensive swimming pool code coordinated with the current requirements in the International Codes and APSP standards. Developed by the International Code Council (ICC) with APSP, the ISPSC will establish minimum regulations for public and residential pools, spas, and hot tubs using prescriptive and performance-related provision. This new Code is now available at a member discount price in the APSP.org/Store. For more information, click here to view a short video. Benefits of the ISPSC include the following: seamless integration with the widely adopted family of International Codes, meets or exceeds the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act requirements, covers fencing, decks, lighting, heaters, circulation systems, pumps, accessibility, diving, sanitizing equipment, filters, and suction fittings, and includes provisions for water parks, diving barriers, general design, and water quality safety. To learn more about the ISPSC visit the ICC website. If your state is in the process of considering code updates, e-mail Carvin DiGiovanni so that we can provide them with information and encourage their adoption of the new code.
Got a Question for a Building Code Official? Join the Conversation
The new ICC Codes & Standards Discussion Forum offers a great place for industry professionals to gather online to discuss and share knowledge on the new ISPSC. Now APSP Builders have a place they can go to and ask questions of building code officials related to the new ISPSC. It’s a resource offered through ICC and APSP and can be accessed here.
