Support for safety

APSP supports the enforcement of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act at the state level and urges each state to adopt laws that allow all the safety options outlined in the VGB safety act. The VGB safety act was enacted with the support of the APSP and is consistent with the ANSI/APSP-7 Entrapment Avoidance Standard. This standard, which represents the most comprehensive approach to entrapment avoidance, was adopted into the 2009 International Residential Code and International Building Code, and by several states. As pool season is well under way, we want to underscore how important it is for all public pools to be brought into compliance with the VGB act. All states should enforce the VGB act and adopt necessary safety measures that permit all of the options in the VGB act, without delay. We stand ready to help states, pool operators, and our members understand and comply with the VGB act. For information on the VGB, the ANSI/APSP-7 Standard and the IRC and IBC building codes, visit the Government Relations section of APSP.org.
