2012 INDUSTRY SUMMIT

Mark Your Calendars! APSP Industry Summit - Aug. 14-15 + Exclusive Member Offer

The 2012 Industry Summit: Making Today’s Consumer Tomorrow’s Customer, will feature a full day and a half day of seminars and workshops that will give industry players in attendance a huge advantage over their competitors. The centerpiece of the Summit is consumer research, sponsored by the Manufacturers Council, and being conducted by the Harrison Group of Waterbury, CT, throughout the year leading up to the event. The research will shed tremendous insight as to who our key consumers are, what their life's priorities are in this post recessionary economy, and how the industry (and your company) can best position itself to prosper in the US landscape that seems forever changed by the events of 2008. If you wish to be notified when the conference slate is set and the registration opens, e-mail Lauren Stack. As an exclusive member only offer, APSP has partnered with The Harrison Group to create InDepth. InDepth is a one-time research offer to help members understand how the affluent and wealthy live and shop. Through InDepth, members will have access to The Harrison Group's "Annual Survey of Affluence and Wealth in America." You will also benefit from several large proprietary studies of our industry's target consumer commissioned by the APSP Manufacturer's Council. All of this information will help you stay ahead of your competitors and learn who might be luring discretionary dollars away from your company and industry! InDepth results are already coming in so don’t delay in getting access to research that's meaningful to your company and your business. To order InDepth, e-mail Lauren Stack.

ADA COMPLIANCE

It's Almost March. Are You In Compliance Yet?

New regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) require compliance by March 2012. Click here to for more information about ADA. Also available for download is the ADA Compliance webinar series. As part of the APSP Education on the Go series, APSP has partnered with SR Smith LLC to create a webinar series about these ADA changes that explains the changes to the law and how they impact your customers, how you can create an implementation plan to become compliant, and gives you the background needed to provide fast answers to challenges that can arise. To purchase the webinar series, e-mail APSP Member Services or call 703.838.0083 ext. 301.

DOT Restricts Mobile Phone USe; Employers Should Implement Policy

A new rule restricts the use of hand held mobile telephones and devices by drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMV). This rule went into effect on January 3, 2012, and was adopted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, which are part of the Department of Transportation. It amends both Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations and Hazardous Materials regulations. The rule restricts CMV drivers from reaching for or holding mobile telephones while operating their vehicles, or pushing more than one button to operate the device. Commercial motor vehicle drivers are still permitted to use mobile telephones and other mobile devices as long as their use complies with the new regulation. The popular Push-To-Talk (PTT) feature used by many drivers is prohibited by this new rule. Employers should prepare and implement a policy consistent with the new regulation, and train their CMV drivers on the policy. For more information about this rule, e-mail Jennifer Hatfield. Click here for more information on what qualifies as a CMV and view Frequently Asked Questions on the ban of cell phones

Industry Great Passes

On Friday, December 30, 2011, Riviera Pool & Spa cofounder and former APSP Mid South Chapter President Milton Stewart succumbed to throat cancer. He is survived by his mother, wife
Analyn and son Josh. Milton first entered the pool industry in 1971 as a Service Manager for Memphis Pool. In 1985, he and Greg Pickle co-founded Riviera Pool & Spa. Over the years, his skills, work ethic, keen insight, and positive attitude were key to growing Riviera Pool & Spa. Our thoughts are with the Stewart family at this time.
