APSP Industry Summit Slated for August 14-15, 2012
There's no better place to be this August than the 2012 Industry Summit in Chicago. It features a full day and a half day of seminars and workshops that will give industry players in attendance a huge advantage over their competitors. The centerpiece of the Summit is consumer research, sponsored by the Manufacturers Council, and being conducted by the Harrison Group throughout the year leading up to the event. The research will shed tremendous insight as to who our key consumers are, what their life's priorities are in this post recessionary economy, and how the industry (and your company) can best position itself to prosper in the US landscape that seems forever changed by the events of 2008. Registration opens March 1 and space is limited to 250 members. Contact Lauren Stack for more information.
GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
Drought Update – Water Restrictions Delayed
In early January APSP was contacted by Tom Dittman, APSP North Texas Chapter President, who explained that the North Texas Municipal Water District Board (NTMWDB) was considering implementing stage four drought restrictions that would prohibit the ability to build new pools in the area. APSP provided Tom and the chapter with information on how to combat such restrictions, using the model the APSP Georgia Chapter utilized a few years ago when they were successful at fighting such restrictions. APSP submitted information to the NTMWDB and brought a contingent of pool and spa industry folks to testify at their January 26 meeting. In the end, due to recent rains, the NTMWDB voted to delay implementation of these restrictions until June 1, 2012. At this time the local chapter is assessing their next steps, with the ultimate goal being that when and if stage 4 restrictions are implemented, the restriction from building new pools is not put into effect.
APSP Submits Comments on MAHC Modules
APSP submitted several comments concerning the Regulatory Administrative Module that closed on February 5, 2012. APSP has been working with its councils and committees to provide feedback on all the MAHC modules, and is expecting several more modules to come out soon, including the Design & Construction Module and the Disinfection & Water Quality Module. Look for an email soon requesting input on the new modules out for comment. Contact Jennifer Hatfield for more information.

AZ SB 1215: This bill repeals the portable spa, and pool pump/motor energy provisions that went into effect January 1, 2012.
IL HB 2980: This bill amends the IL Swimming Facility Act to provide that the DOH cannot impose penalties on a swimming facility that is in violation of the VGB Act until October 1, 2012 if the swimming facility has applied on or before October 1, 2011 to become compliant with the Act.
MA SB 2091: APSP recently testified in public hearing before a joint committee, encouraging Massachusetts to require a builders and a service/maintenance license. APSP continues to work with its Region 9 members to pass this legislation.
WV SB 59: This creates the WV VGB Act. We are currently working with an APSP member in the state to address this bill to ensure consistency with VGB and ANSI/APSP-7.
