For over fifty years, NESPA has been affiliated with the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP), first as the Northeast Chapter of APSP, and subsequently, as the administrator of the five APSP chapters located in a territory known as Region I, which covers Connecticut, New Jersey, Eastern New York, and Eastern Pennsylvania. NESPA is also the primary communicator to over 860 individual APSP members in the area. The Edge is the NESPA quarterly publication dedicated to pool and spa professionals working in northern climates and doing business in Region I.

 NESPA is the owner and producer of the Atlantic City Pool & Spa Show, one of the swimming pool industry's largest events, which draws over 12,000 people to Atlantic City for four days of educational, business, and social activities each January. NESPA's other “trademark” activity is the Professional Training Institute, which began as Hands-On-Training Institute in 1984. The Professional Training Institute provides comprehensive training programs designed to upgrade professional skills in building, service, management, and retail operations.

 NESPA also serves as a source of health- and building-code support to its members and regional code officials, and product and safety information for the ultimate consumer.
