Builders, designers and remodelers - this CRITICAL UPDATE is for you!  This the second in a series of training webinars on the use of the ANSI/APSP Standards in pool service and construction. These standards are the foundation of building codes nationwide and set the legal benchmarks against which our work is measured. APSP is the industry’s standards-writing organization - and if you build pools and aren’t aware of these changes – now is the time to get this important update!

The ANSI/APSP-5 Standard was updated in 2011 and is THE critical standard that every pool builder should own and follow in order to protect both their customers and their company.  Important changes you MUST KNOW were made in this update - including changes to the minimum diving envelope, changes and clarifications related to ledges, slopes and pool entry points, and changes to circulation system and heater requirements. If you design or build to specifications that don’t meet these new parameters, you work, and your customers, could be at risk.

Dan Johnson, CSP, Chairman of the ANSI/APSP-5 Technical Writing Committee who worked on this update, is your presenter for this 50 minute webinar. With your standard in hand, Dan walks you through the changes --- and there could truly be no better person to take you through it! Aside from saving you the time and effort of looking for the changes on your own, Dan also explains the reasoning behind the changes and how to best implement them in your pools and spa design and construction. This is 50 minutes that will save you time, money and, potentially, your reputation as a competent builder/designer/remodeler.

"Avoiding Disaster: Protecting your Customer and Your Business Using the ANSI-APSP Pool and Spa Standards" presented by Steven Getzoff, J.D.

Learn how the ANSI/APSP Standards can help your company avoid costly mistakes, improve your business practices, and reduce your risk. Don’t skip this chance to get 40 minutes of advice you can't get from your neighborhood attorney!

Steven Getzoff, J.D., is the APSP legal counsel and an acknowledged expert in pool industry-related litigation. He’ll explain in straight-forward language the benefits of manufacturing, building and servicing according to the ANSI/APSP Standards – and the legal and business risks if you do not! With the ICC/APSP International Swimming Pool and Spa Code rolling out in March 2012, many of our voluntary standards, which are part of the Code, will have the force of law once adopted by jurisdictions around the country. Learn how you can make these Standards your best friend—and keep them from becoming your worst enemy!

The ADA Compliance Series  sponsored by S. R. Smith Corporate Logo (March 2011)

"Obligations and Opportunities Under the 2010 ADA Regulations"  presented by John Caden of SR Smith, LLC

The US Department of Justice issued new regulations for pools and spas associated with the 1991 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These regulations will require that public pools and spas provide at least one (and in some cases, two) means of access to the pool or spa for individuals with physical disabilities.

Are you prepared to outline the requirements to your customers? If not, this 30 minute webinar, presented by John Caden of SR Smith, LLC, will give you the information you need to counsel your customers on the best methods of becoming compliant, and tips on taking advantage of the business opportunity these new regulations offer pool industry professionals

Don't let others who are "in the know" capitalize on this with your customers - get the facts now!

"Implementing ADA for Swimming Pools" presented by John Caden of SR Smith, LLC

The second webinar in this series builds on the groundwork laid in the first webinar and provides the pool/spa builder or service provider with a multi-step process for taking customers from understanding the law into implementing it on their property. This webinar explains how to conduct a barrier removal analysis and how to create an implementation plan, as well as the accepted methods of documenting the process. You'll also learn how to develop an inclusive marketing strategy to make the most of the improvements, and how to ensure the appropriate maintenance plan is adopted by your customer. Once you've learned these steps, you will be better equipped to take on a consultive role with your customers and ensure they are compliant with all aspects of this new law.

"Beyond Implementation: Expert Advice on Handling Challenging ADA Pool/Spa Compliance Issues" presented by John Caden of SR Smith, LLC

We wrap up this series with a 35 minute webinar that tackles some of the problems you are likely to encounter as you work with customers to bring their facilities into compliance with the new ADA law.  Presented in a Q & A format that covers alot of ground, the information shared in this webinar will allow you to anticipate problems and have the answer ready when the problem presents itself.  No better way to impress your clients and colleagues than to be aware of the potential pitfalls and be prepared with the solution!

John Caden has been working in the accessible products industry for more than 30 years and is among the foremost authorities on ADA legislation as it affects the pool and spa industry.  He's "seen it all" and shares strategies and ideas that will help your clients meet the requirements of the law and thereby open their doors to a whole new market of pool, spa, and hot tub users.  A free download of the SR Smith Accessibility Audit Guide is included with your webinar. A link is provided on your purchase receipt.

The Safety is No Accident Series         Sponsored by  arch chemicals

"Your Warehouse-Make it Safe: Create a Safety Management Plan"

A safety management plan is a systematic way to manage pool product inventory.  Done properly - it can save you money, time and lives.  Done improperly or without due consideration, it can be just as costly in all three areas.  Go beyond the minimum required by code or local regulations and create a comprehensive safety management plan that ensures safe storage and handling to help safeguard your employees, your customers, your community and your emergency responders.

Jerry Pierrottie, Environmental Health and Safety Services Manager for Arch Chemicals, Inc. will detail the 10 key components that make up a good safety plan.  He'll then take you item-by-item through the list, highlighting items like good site plan creation, pile and total volume statements, sprinkler flow density for each product and each system, and much more.  Don't let another day, week, or month go by without having a comprehensive safety plan in place in your workplace.

"Fire Safety Standards for Pool and Spa Chemicals: Oxidizers and Corrosives"

Knowing the fire safety standards that affect your business is not just "nice to know" information, it's absolutely "need to know" if you want to avoid problems with the fire marshall and code enforcement, and, more importantly, ensure a safe working environment for employees and a safe shopping experience for customers in a retail establishment.

In this webinar, Jerry Pierrottie, Environmental Health and Safety Services Manager for Arch Chemicals, Inc., will explain the various classes of chemicals - focusing on oxidizers and corrosives - and provide the code references that detail appropriate chemical handling. He'll also discuss the NFPA 400 code, which is new as of 2010, and will detail the key sections for you, including the amount of chemical you can safely store in sprinkler and non-sprinkler buildings.

The Power Point slides from the presentation are downloadable and will provide you with very detailed explanations and notes that will help you put this information right into action in your warehouse or retail store. Truly understanding the fire safety standards - and ensuring your key staff also understand them - is critical to ensuring a safe working environment for everyone.

"Safe Storage and Handling of Pool and Spa Chemicals"

Do your employees know how to properly handle and transport each chemical housed in your building or transported on your trucks? If your answer is "I think so" or "Most of them do" - you NEED to sit down your group and watch this comprehensive review of proper storage, handling and transportation of the chemicals we routinely use in our business. Proper handling can save you money and ensure a safe working environment for your staff.

Jerry Pierrottie, Environmental Health and Safety Services Manager for Arch Chemicals, Inc., will provide a safety summary of each category of pool chemical from oxidizers to acids and balancers, and then will take it further to cover the various ways you can identify the chemical risk associated with each. He then tackles transportation of chemicals and the requirements of DOT 49 CFR covering everything from hazardous material communication to training requirements to security measures that must be taken when transporting chemicals. He wraps up with a discussion of spill response and the proper way to handle various types of spills.

This 50 minute webinar can serve as a hazardous material training session for your staff* and is the perfect winter or rainy day training program. Ensure a safe working environment by training your entire staff on the proper procedures for handling chemicals.
