Message from CEO Bill Weber
Reprinted from APSP Quarterly
“That’s the way we’ve always done it!” can be a real problem in any organization. In this day and age — with mobile apps, instant messages, and viral videos, “the way we’ve always done it” just won’t cut it anymore. Today, every organization needs constant innovation. As the industry’s trade association, APSP is no different; we continually need new ideas and bold thinking to address the challenges and future opportunities that face our industry.
Over the past several years, we’ve faced many challenges and I’m pleased with how industry leaders have come together to shape an exciting new direction for APSP. The association’s volunteer leadership has inspired all of us to look for new ideas and better ways of doing things, and along the way, we’ve developed some really big ideas. This issue of AQ highlights many of them. And at the center of all of our programs – the actual heart and soul of APSP — are the volunteers who continue to make great things happen.
Take, for example, our commitment to professionalism and continuing education. We’ve seen tremendous change in how we manage our programs with the implementation of the Career Institute, and our volunteers have been the key factor in making this happen. The amount of volunteer hours committed to this endeavor is extraordinary. I’d love to name names here, but the list would take up every page of this issue . Consider this… There are members of the CI Board of Regents, incredible volunteer instructors, manual contributors, tech school administrators, and education committee members who create ,review and deliver content. We have tremendous sponsors like Latham International and Bioguard, who are committed to quality education programs and raising professionalism. The same spirit of volunteerism exists with our regions, chapters, councils, standards writing process, Technical Committee, government affairs efforts and countless other programs where we harness the collective wisdom of our volunteers for the benefit of the industry.
So as we move forward together, thinking creatively and working collaboratively, I would like to thank all of you. We sincerely appreciate the effort it takes to set aside the “that’s the way we’ve always done it” mentality and find innovative new ways to deliver our message and services.
If you’ve not volunteered before, it’s time to get involved. Visit myAPSP.org and pursue what interests you – it’s the first step to getting the most from your membership investment.
Best regards, Bill Weber President and CEO The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals
