APSP Offers New Award for Public Health Officials
In recognition of the contributions of public health officials to the healthy and safe use of recreational water, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals announces the creation of the Dr. Neil Lowry Memorial Award. Dr. Lowry was an active member of the pool community and a strong advocate of educating operators to improve public health. The award will be given to support continuing educational, technical and operational activities of individuals and departments. The nominations deadline is March 15, 2009. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Issues Poster for Compliance with Virginia Graeme Baker Act
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a one-page free “guide to compliance” poster for the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. The posteris a good educational tool for public pool and spa owners about the requirements under the new law. The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals has compiled and posted on APSP.org a list of APSP membersthat report their suction outlet covers and SVRS systems meet the requirements of the Act. Recreational Water Quality is written by industry experts for public health officials and published digitally four times annually by The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP). RWQ invites public health officials to send suggestions for technical articles and questions about public health problems associated with public pools and spas and water quality issues. PHOs are also invited to submit short articles (circa 1000 words) for possible publication; the article should focus on problems solved to help others with similar problems.
