Hearings This Week to Decide on ICC Adoption of ANSI-7 Standard
APSP will present its case for adoption of the ANSI-7 standard for suction entrapment avoidance at the International Code Council (ICC) code hearings this week. The ICC Code Development Hearings are being held February 18 - March 1 in Palm Springs, CA, and APSP’s delegation of members expects to address the ICC committees on February 20. APSP believes it has an excellent chance of success at this year’s ICC hearings. MORE

Three Advertising Agencies in Running for Hot Tub Industry Growth Campaign
The Marketing Taskforce of the APSP Hot Tub Council, working with agency search partner Hasan + Co, has narrowed the search for an advertising agency to drive the branding and advertising component of the hot tub industry growth initiative to three candidates. The Richards Group, Blattner Brunner, and Carton Donofrio Partners will each present at the industry meeting set for Alexandria, VA on March 26, 2008 where a final agency decision will be made. Southeast Drought Continues to Make Headlines

Although Georgia Governor Perdue recently lifted the ban on outdoor pools for the summer, the historic drought gripping much of the Southeast continues to make headlines in consumer media across the nation. APSP Alerts the Industry about Pool & Spa Safety Act through Meetings, Website
APSP is continuing its communication and outreach about the Pool and Spa Safety Act, with APSP’s Technical Committee Chairman Steve Barnes and APSP staff giving presentations at several upcoming industry venues, including APSP chapter meetings and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) National Aquatic Conference. APSP is also publishing on APSP.org several membership information documents that will provide specific guidance about how to comply with the new federal requirements for retrofitting public pools with ASME-compliant safety covers. APSP Manufacturers Council Welcomes New Members
At its meeting in Atlantic City last month, the APSP Manufacturers Council (MC) welcomed two new members. Richard Rosene of Solar Sun Rings, Inc. and Eric Schechter of G.A.M.E.(Great American Merchandise & Events) have now joined with 18 other APSP member manufacturers to define Council priorities and lead industry initiatives. One vacant seat remains on Council at the present time. The MC will next meet in Chicago on May 13-14, 2008. For more information contact Lauren Stack.

Region 3 Houston Chapter Meeting Highlights
The APSP Greater Houston Chapter’s recent meeting had over 100 attendees. Sound pool design and construction is a hot topic among APSP members and the local chapter. Listening to the concerns of their members, the chapter invited David Eastwood, PE, to discuss prudent practices and guidelines for inground pool construction. Mr. Eastwood is the president and chief engineer of Geotech Engineering and Testing (GET). For more information on structuring an issues-based meeting, please contact Regional Manager Pam Vinje. Water Quality Committee Meets Next Month to Review ANSI Canvass Comments

The Recreational Water Quality (RWQ) Committee will address questions submitted from the national ANSI canvass of the APSP draft standard for water quality at its meeting March 11-12 in Atlanta. The comments were submitted in December during the first ANSI ballot. MORE.
