Attention, Golfers! APSP Golf Tournament Set for Monday of Expo Week
Gene Fields, Vice Chair of the APSP Board of Directors, announces that APSP is partnering with a professional management firm, Great Golf Events, to present a first-class golf tournament on Monday, November 26, 2007 to lead into the International Pool & Spa Expo activities. The event will be held at Champions Gate golf course in Orlando, the same course where the PGA Father/Son Invitational will be nationally televised the following weekend. Champions Gate is located about four miles from the Orlando Convention Center. The tournament will benefit the APSP’s government relations efforts. Details coming soon!
August 16 New York Times Article: ‘Pools Conceived to Make a Splash’
A recent article in the New York Times discusses the greatly disputed topic of swimming pools adding value to the home. In a time when most residential property in America continues to lose value, these high end pools are gaining ground and proving to be a wise investment. APSP spokeswoman and BOD Chair Penny Johnson was interviewed for this piece and quoted on the explosion of the high-end market due to the influx of new technology. New Labor Laws Regulate 15-Year-Old Lifeguards
The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed revising child labor law provisions pertaining to the employment of 15-year-old lifeguards. The changes, if the proposed regulations become final, would permit trained and certified 15-year-olds to work as lifeguards at traditional pool facilities, in traditional pools at most waterpark attractions, and at other waterpark facilities, including waterslide catch pools, wave pools, lazy rivers, and play areas. Awards of Excellence 2007 Competition Closes; Banquet Planned
The APSP Awards of Excellence competition–featuring some of the world’s most beautiful pools, spas, hot tubs, and water features–closed August 10, 2007 with entries topping the 750 mark. Judging will take place September 5-7 at APSP headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. All entrants will be notified of their award status in the following weeks. MORE.
APSP Invited to Exhibit at Annual ICC Conference
APSP plans to exhibit at the 2007 International Code Council’s Annual Educational Conference September 30-October 3 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. APSP has been actively working for the ICC adoption of the ANSI-7 Standard. If your local code or building official is attending this conference, let them know that APSP will be there at Booth 227. Serve Your Industry—Join a Council!
APSP Councils have the responsibility of representing the interests of the members of their business segment and offering marketing, technical, and management support to the national staff. Councils have representation on the APSP Board of Directors and make recommendations on how best to advance the business, image, and welfare of APSP members collectively.
